Best Grilled Burgers

huge juicy burger piled high with caramelized onions and a side of french fries

If you're craving a nice hot, juicy burger, you've come to the right place. These meet the highest expectation for flavor and texture and you will absolutely be making them again and again. The butter gives the #1 best flavor but if you're dairy free, the oil still works nicely. The caramelized onions go so well with these burgers and this sauce is absolutely divine. This dinner pairs nicely with some air fryer french fries.

Ingredients
1-2 Tbsp oil of choice
1 onion, sliced
1/3 cup oil or butter, melted
2 garlic cloves
4 1/4 or 1/3 lb burger patty, fresh or frozen

Tools

Sauce Ingredients
4 Tbsp ketchup
4 Tbsp mayo
4 tsp mustard
1 1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning or make your own

Directions
Heat up your oil in a pan on the stove top, cast iron preferred. Add onion and turn heat down to low or medium low. Stir occasionally and let the onions gradually cook down and magically release that gorgeous caramelized sugar. It takes about 30 minutes for the whole cook time but is so worth it.
Mix all the sauce ingredients together and store in fridge until ready to use.
About 15 minutes before you plan to eat, preheat your grill. Mix together the butter and fresh pressed garlic cloves. Prep your burgers by generously sprinkling both sides with 721 spice mix. Place them on the grill and turn the heat to low. Once they're on the grill use the basting brush to baste the top with the butter/garlic mixture. After about a minute of grill time baste again and turn the burgers about 45 degrees to get really beautiful grill markings. After another minute or so, flip and baste the other side. Wait 1-2 minutes and baste again, this time check the internal temperature with the digital thermometer and leave in if possible. If you want to be completely safe, let the temperature get up to 160°F and then pull the burgers off and rest for 5 minutes. I prefer the texture and juiciness of 150°F held for 1 minute and then pulled off and rested for 5 minutes.
A fun trick for getting limp lettuce to look fresh again is to place under a wet paper towel and put ice cubes on top for at least 15 minutes.
Assemble the burgers with the onions and sauce plus other toppings as desired. I rarely eat it with a bun but of course it looked so beautiful for the picture. Yummy!
