Scones

4 cups all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons sugar

4 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon cream of tartar

½ cup oil

1 egg

1 ½ cups hazelnut creamer or

half-and-half or 1 cup milk

1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate

chips, optional

 
 

In a bowl, combine the first five ingredients; cut in butter until crumbly. In a bowl, whisk egg and creamer; add to dry ingredients just until moistened. Stir in chocolate chips. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 10 times. Divide dough in half. Pat each portion into a 7-in. circle; cut into eight wedges. Separate wedges and place on greased baking sheets. Bake at 425 degrees for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with fruit smoothie. (Serves 6-8)
